Tom grew up in his fathers steam model shop. A young boys fantasy emporium.

Tom grew up in his Fathers steam model shop, ‘Pen-Y-Darren’, in Bath.-A young boys fantasy emporium. His father, successful in his own career, trained with Burmeister and Wain, Denmark- A leading-ship building nation of the world. He became chief engineer of the steam ship- ‘The Pasadena’. Growing up in the Steam model shop, Tom was surrounded by exquisite and highly engineered models of steam trains, ships and architectural models. Toms mother, a potter and painter, sold her Royal Danish blue pottery to the Queen of Denmark, she also made models for the famous Harbutts Plasticine factory in Bathampton, Bath. It was this upbringing that had a huge influence on Tom’s career.
